Meizu has recently announced a new addition to its Blue charm series – the Meizu Metal, which joins the rest of the company’s m line together with the m1 and m2 as well as their bigger note versions.

As the name suggests, the device will be constructed from metal. It will be powered by MediaTek’s newest Helio X10 chip with a 2.0GHz octa-core processor, PowerVR G6200 GPU, 2GB of RAM and up to 32GB of expandable internal storage.

The device is built around a 5.5-inch Full HD LTPS display that is protected by a layer of Dinorex T2X-1 glass with curved edges giving the panel a 2.5D effect. Meizu has also added a 13MP camera at the back with two LED flashes, a 5MP camera on the front and a fingerprint scanner embedded within the home button.

Connectivity-wise, the phone offers support for LTE and dual-SIM functionality. Energy is supplied by a 3140mAh battery while the operating system installed in Android Lollipop with the company’s Flyme 5.1 launcher on top.

The Meizu Metal will be available in a slew of colors including white, gold, gray, blue and pink. The phone is now available for pre-order in China for $199 for the 16GB model.

The 5.5-inch display of the Meizu M2 Note is perfect for people who are looking for a smartphone with a big screen that’s good either for viewing videos and other forms of media. But in case you’re shopping for a phone with a slightly smaller screen, then the recently announced m2 could be the handset for you.

The smaller variant of the M2 Note that was announced a couple of months ago is packing a 5-inch IPS LCD panel with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels with a Dragontrail glass protection. Lifting the hood, there’s a 1.3GHz qua-core processor, a Mali T720 graphics card, 2GB of RAM and 16GB worth of expandable storage.

Looking at the back, there’s a 13MP f/2.2 rear camera from Samsung and a 2500mAh battery. There’s also a 5MP snapper on the front for selfies with an f/2.0 sensor.

Connectivity-wise, the Meizu m2 is sporting two SIM card slots and LTE connectivity. The handset will run on Android 5.1 and will come in four different colors: white, gray, blue and pink. The phone will be available in the coming weeks, initially in China for around $112.

The successor to the Meizu MX4 from last year has arrived and it has a few new tricks up its sleeves. The Meizu MX5 was announced today at a special event in Beijing.

The new Meizu phablet is sporting a slightly bigger screen than its predecessor at 5.5 inches with Full HD resolution. The screen is of the AMOLED type and is protected by a layer of Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 panel.

The innards is composed of a MediaTek MT6795 chip (Helio X10) with a 2.2GHz octa-core processor, a PowerVR G6200 graphics card, 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM and up to 64GB of built-in storage.

At the back, there’s a 20.7MP camera with dual-color LED flash, laser-aided focus and an f/2.2 aperture. The rear camera is capable of capturing 4k video and can shoot 100-fps slow-motion videos at 720p. The front camera has a 5MP sensor and a brighter f/2.0 aperture enabling users to get better selfies even in low-light conditions.

Meizu has also installed a fingerprint sensor on the MX5 with an improved software and design over that on the MX4 Pro. According to Meizu, the new mTouch reader on the handset features a more robust module and incorporates water-proof silicon coating and a solid screw fixture that should the sensor will last up to 300,000 presses.

On the connectivity department, the device has slots for two SIM cards (with LTE support for both slots), dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 and a slew of sensors including a gravity sensor, an IR sensor, gyroscope, ambient light sensor and a compass.

Just like other recent China phones, the MX5 features a fast charging technology called mCharge, which can juice up the phone’s 3150mAh battery from 0-25% in just 10 minutes.

The Meizu MX5 will be available in three colors – deep grey, silver and champagne gold for around $290 for the base 16GB version and goes up to $390 for the top-tier 64GB variant.

Nokia and Meizu both released two new handset this week that shows the two faces of the mobile phone market – one with a demand for smart features while the other with a demand for basic call and text  functionality.

On one end we have the Nokia 105, which offers barebone features including an 800mAh battery that can last up to 35 days on standby, a 1.45-inch LCD display and a memory that can store up to 2000 contacts. The phone will also come in a dual-SIM version, a feature that popular in a lot of emerging markets.

The Nokia 105 is dirt cheap, as you might expect in this kind of device. It will retail for about $20 once it becomes available (no word from Microsoft yet). 

At the other end of the spectrum, we have the Meizu m2 Note, which obviously will replace the outgoing M1 Note from last year. 

Just like its predecessor, the new Meizu phablet will have a 5.5-inch display with Full HD resolution IGZO panel made by Sharp. Under the hood, is a MediaTek MT6753 chip that features an octa-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz, a Mali-T720 MP3 graphics card, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage.

The camera department boasts a 13MP snapper at the back from Samsung with a five-element f/2.2 lens with Gorilla glass 3 while on the front is a 5MP f/2.0 selfie snapper. The handset will also come with a 3140mAh battery and Cat 4 LTE that promises download speeds of up to 150Mbps.

The Meizu m2 Note will have the same price as its predecessor at $160 and there’s a 16GB version as well that will sell for $30 less.

Chinese retail giant Alibaba has recently invested over $500 million into the smartphone maker Meizu, giving it a minority stake on the company.

According to reports, the two companies will collaborate both in terms of strategic and business levels to achieve a deeper integration of Meizu’s hardware with Alibaba’s mobile operating system – YunOS, which is based on Android.

At the same time, Meizu will be able to take advantage of Alibaba’s wide market reach and various services much like how Amazon envisioned its Firephone. Alibaba isn’t providing details on how much equity it got for its investment.

Chinese phone maker Meizu has just unveiled a new budget smartphone that’s targeting the same audience as the Xiaomi Redmi 2.

The new Meizu m1 is built around a 5-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels and a screen density of 300ppi. Under the hood, there’s a 64-bit MediaTek chip with a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of on-board storage that can be expanded using microSD cards up to 128GB.

There’s also a 13MP camera at the back and a 5MP front-facing snapper with a f/2.0 aperture. Energy is supplied by a 2610mAh battery while screen protection is courtesy of Corning’s third generation Gorilla Glass.

Meizu promised to bring the m1 initially to China for around $110. Consumers can pick from a variety of colors including green, yellow, white, pink, blue and peppermint green. Meizu is capping off the year with its first smartphone under the Blue Charm line-up – the m1 Note.

The device is built around a 5.5-inch IGZO display that boasts Full HD resolution and a screen density of 403ppi. Under the hood, there’s a 4-bit MT6752 chipset with a 1.7GHz octa-core Cortex A53 processor, a Mali-T760 GPU, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage.

At the back, there’s a 13MP camera made by Samsung that is capable of capturing 1080p videos, while a 5MP rests at the front of the device featuring a 4-element lens. There’s aslo a 3140mAh battery and two SIM card slots.

The phone will sell for $160 and will be offered in a variety of colors including green, pink, blue, yellow and white. There’s no word yet on shipping dates and availability for markets outside China, but we’ll keep everyone posted.
